Bright Pictures is a new feature film company founded and jointly managed by Oscar-nominated Writer/Director Roger Goldby and Producer Sarah Sulick.

The company was established in 2006 when Sarah and Roger teamed up to make The Waiting Room, a contemporary drama set in London. The film stars Anne-Marie Duff (Garage; The Magdalene Sisters), Ralf Little (24 Hour Party People), and Rupert Graves (Death at a Funeral). Other principal cast includes Frank Finlay, Zoe Telford, Phyllida Law, Christine Bottomley, Adrian Bower, Daisy Donovan, Lizzy McInnerny and Allan Corduner. The film was shot in South London in autumn 2006.

The Waiting Room premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August 2007 at two sold-out public screenings where it went down brilliantly with audiences and was critically acclaimed. It was also chosen for “Best of the Fest” – a selection of the best films at Edinburgh screened on the last day of the festival, chosen based on audience reception and curatorial input.

Following its debut Derek Elley of Variety called the film “funny and touching…has more emotional truths and entertainment value than a whole bonfire of low-budget miserabilist Brit dramas”. He went on to praise its “well-turned script, fine performances and small, human grace notes that will chime with any general audience”. James King of BBC’s Radio One has called the film “an irresistibly engaging drama full of powerful performances, grown-up romance, and unexpected humanity”.

The Waiting Room has been picked up for international sales by the Canadian-based international sales company Maximum Films, run by Charlotte Mickie (former Head of Sales at Celluloid Dreams and Alliance Atlantis). It has been bought by Lionsgate Films for the UK, IFC Films for the US, and Maximum Films for Canada. Lionsgate is planning a theatrical release for summer 2008.

Bright Pictures’ next project is the UK/French co-production The Time of Their Lives, a road movie about two old ladies – HELEN, an actress, and PRISCILLA, a housewife – who impulsively join forces on a trip from England to France to attend the funeral of Helen’s ex-husband. Along the way their growing friendship helps them to conquer past demons, giving them the strength to face uncertain futures.
